Why 'The Perch'

It’s a personal story.

For years and years I had stomach issues, suffered constipation, could never empty my bowels effectively and after two failed bowel operations, a near death experience, a succession of mostly unpleasant tests and a cocktail of prescription drugs there was a diagnosis: diverticulitis (intestinal inflammation). Well, no surprises there.

Having a name for the problem didn’t result in a remedy and the misery continued. As it turned out there was a very simple solution, and it’s gaining resonance around the western world – to squat. It’s the way nature intended and what more than half the world’s population already do, but how to achieve this without re-plumbing, re-designing and re-building the modern toilet?

This is where innovation and a bit of kiwi ingenuity came into play and after two years of improvisation and honing a design, The Perch was created.

It’s changed my life and I believe it will make a positive difference to anyone that gives it a try.

I like The Perch so much that I take it on holiday.
